Delphi Automotive Systems

Delphi Automotive Systems, an American supplier for the automotive industry with several sites in Germany, requested us to produce six short films about different Delphi products.

The challenge for the m3 team was to explain innovative technical systems in 90 seconds per film meeting high optical standards. Furthermore they had to do the splits to make the films attractive for the engineer as well as for the “ordinary spectator”. Not only did we impart knowledge by means of expressive texts but we also cared for the attraction in the image. Technology is able to create emotions by simply and concisely demonstrating to whom it is of use and in which case.

In this project location scouting was of central importance as the location had to meet quite a lot of requirements to shoot a high-quality, emotional and time-efficient clip.

To get nice image compositions we looked for attractive curved roads with both a slight upgrade and downgrade. It goes without saying that the optical harmony was not to be spoilt by traffic signs, guardrails etc. - just an idyll for car drivers.

On top of that there were some basic requirements caused by production techniques. To catch all important details we shot from at least eight different camera positions  - once again there were special requirements to be met by the route. Special attention was directed on the light. We needed steady light conditions during several hours and the prerequisites for day-for-night production.
The effect of absolute easiness in the film is the result of a high logistic expenditure, good organisation and an almost ideal location offering everything - including good access roads, parking and turning areas as well as a lot of space for all auxiliary vehicles plus catering.
